About

Appalachian Trail (AT)

Distance: 95.7 miles

95.7 miles of the Appalachian Trail (AT) are in North Carolina. The trail snakes along the Tennessee border for an additional 224 miles through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park reaching the trail’s highest elevation of 6,612′ at Clingman’s Dome in NC.

The Appalachian Trail can be spit up into smaller section hikes and very enjoyable day hikes. For weekend hikes you will need to get a backcountry permit to reserve your shelter along the trail. Some of our favorite sections include a short hike at Max Patch.
