2019 Seasonal Events in Haywood County

Good tidings to all our established and soon-to-be Haywood County festival-lovers! The cool air and the autumnal colors dappling our mountains means the holiday season is right around the corner. And as always, we’ve got some spectacular celebrations planned, filled with the necessary Smoky Mountain staples: home-grown song and dance, plenty of delicious food, and all the handcrafted artwork you could ask for. 11/3/19 – Lighting Up Maggie Valley

Maggie Valley Town Hall
This annual holiday kick-off event in Maggie Valley gives you the opportunity to grab photos with Santa and sip on cups of hot cocoa before the lighting of the Maggie Valley town Christmas tree.

12/5/19 – Canton Christmas Parade

Downtown Canton
Ring in the holiday season with Canton’s traditional downtown nighttime parade. Full of several bright and inventive parade floats, this year’s theme is “No Place Like Home for Christmas.”

12/6/19 – 12/7/19 – Balsam Range Art of Music Festival

Lake Junaluska
This 3-day celebration of all things Bluegrass is back for another year, highlighted by Haywood County’s own Balsam Range. Afternoons at the Art of Music Festival are filled with all kinds of helpful sessions, from instructional workshops to handcrafted instrument building. Evenings are highlighted by concerts featuring the country’s top Bluegrass and Acoustic artists. Book early because this sells out fast.

12/6/19 – Art After Dark

Downtown Waynesville
Watch Waynesville’s streets turn into a visual, culinary, and performing arts center during Art After Dark. Take in live music, browse galleries and shops, and dine on farm-to-table fresh cuisine served up by local restaurants.

12/8/19 – Shelton House Appalachian Family Christmas Illumination Event

 

Shelton House Historic Barn
Honoring traditional Appalachian Christmas celebrations of years past, the historic Shelton House will feature Santa Claus, refreshments, carolers, and a light show like no other, accompanied with the singing of “The Night Before Christmas” and “Oh Holy Night”.

12/9/19 – Waynesville Christmas Parade

Downtown Waynesville
Waynesville’s annual Christmas parade features dozens of illuminated floats making their way down Main Street. Each one will be inspired by this year’s theme, “Candy Cane Christmas.” While you watch the show, you can enjoy hot chocolate, tea, coffee, cider, and various snacks at several shops and restaurants lining the parade route.

12/12-15/19 – Appalachian Christmas

Not much can top the festive spirit inspired by a snow-covered Lake Junaluska in the winter. Get into the Christmas spirit with special holiday-themed plays, musical performances, craft shows, worship services, and more.

12/14/19 – A Night Before Christmas

Downtown Waynesville
A favorite Waynesville tradition! The sounds of live music and caroling fill the streets along with nativity scenes, wagon rides, luminaries, and Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Shop the Bethlehem Marketplace and browse shops and galleries for those last-minute Christmas presents.
