It’s Snowing in Maggie Valley!

A big snow in early December was a fun surprise for Maggie Valley! Snow fort building and snowball fights were happening up and down Soco Road. Even though it caused some closures and slowdowns, the folks in Maggie were appreciative for a lovely snowfall, especially before Christmas.

Hit the Mountain

The natural snow and cool temperatures have allowed for a stellar start to the season at Cataloochee Ski Area. Whether you’re into snowboarding or skiing, the snow is perfect right now on the mountain. Did you know CAT Ski offers a number of lessons and classes for people of all ages and abilities?  Starting in early January, the mountain will begin their annual after school program where students can learn to ski or snowboard in groups with a trained instructor. There is also a homeschooling program offering discounts to students who are homeschooled and would like to learn a winter sport. A number of opportunities are also available for adults. More information can be found by visiting Cataloochee Ski online.

Ice Skating Fun

To offer something new to locals and visitors, we’re hosting a skating rink during the month of February. This will be an outdoor rink open to skaters of all ages and operating February 8-17. Weekday hours are 4:00-8:00 p.m. and weekend hours are noon-8:00 p.m. The cost is $5 for children and $8 for adults, and sessions last one hour and 45 minutes. Along with skating fun, there will be a Kid’s Zone and hot beverages for everyone to enjoy. If all is a success, we hope to make this a yearly tradition!
