Winter Fun Itinerary

DAY ONE

Hit the Slopes at Cataloochee Ski Area
1080 Ski Lodge Rd., Maggie Valley 28751
Ski the southernmost ski area in the country! With an elevation of 5,400 feet and 18 slopes and trails ranging from beginner to expert, the ski area provides challenging fun for the entire family. Also known as one of the first ski areas to open and one of the last to close, you’re guaranteed one of the longest ski seasons in the South. Visit www.cataloochee.com for more info and current conditions. Make the most of your winter adventure with a whole day on the slopes, but take a break to cozy up by the fire in the lodge and enjoy a delicious meal at the on-site restaurant and lounge.

Shopping in Downtown Waynesville
Historic Main Street, Waynesville 28786
Time to thaw out! Head to Main Street in Waynesville to grab a hot chocolate or locally roasted coffee and explore the many unique shops and boutiques that line Main Street. You’ll find everything from outdoor gear and one-of-kind gifts to fine art and handmade jewelry. It’s the perfect afternoon activity after a morning on the slopes.

An Evening at The Strand
38 N. Main St., Waynesville 28786
The Strand at 38 Main is a boutique cinema and intimate listening venue located in the heart of downtown Waynesville. The Strand offers an ever-changing mix of classic films, first run movies and live music. The storefront lobby serves classic movie concessions including organic popcorn, local craft brews, artisan sodas by the Waynesville Soda Jerks, fresh-baked soft pretzels, homemade ice cream from The Hop, coffee drinks and more!

DAY TWO

Experience the Perfect Winter Hike at Sam’s Summits Loop Trail

Spend the morning exploring the perfect winter hike. Head up Hwy. 215/Lake Logan Rd. to access the Sam’s Summits Loop Trail, located in the Shining Rock Wilderness area of the Pisgah National Forest. As this area borders the Blue Ridge Parkway, it is often inaccessible via the Parkway in the winter due to road closures, but the trailhead for Sam’s Summits is accessible year-round. A free beautifully illustrated guide is available exclusively at the Haywood County Visitors Center, providing directions, an overview of the area, multiple trail paths and other tips for hiking the area.

This map and others are available at the Haywood County Visitor Center in Maggie Valley – (800) 334-9036.

Slip and Slide at Tube World
4821 Soco Rd., Maggie Valley 28751
Relive your childhood days of sledding or create new memories with your own little ones. Tube World, located just before you head up the mountain to Cataloochee Ski Area, is a snow tubing slalom that offers six lanes of tubing fun! Kids of all ages enjoy tubing and it’s perfect for families or groups. Plus, you never have to walk back up the hill. Simply step on the carpet lift and let it do the work.

Check Out Our Craft Breweries!
Warm up with a locally brewed seasonal ale. Haywood County is the proud home of four microbreweries: Boojum Brewing, BearWaters Brewing, Frog Level Brewing, and Tipping Point Brewery and Tavern. Each has its own distinct taste, so spend the afternoon at one (or more) trying their various taps. Order up a frosty flight and don’t forget to grab a growler of your favorite to take home.
